Aim: Promotion of laparoscopic hernia repair in Asia esp. in China.
Main Topic: Abdominal Wall and Incisional Hernia.
Special Focus:
1.Development of Guidelines in Abdominal Wall and Incisional
Hernia ( Consensus Conference).
2. Education in laparoscopic hernia repair.
Live-Surgery: Abdominal Wall and Incisional Hernia, Parastomal Hernia,
Inguinal Hernia.
Methods:
1. Invited lectures (based on EBM- data) regarding main questions
in repair of abdominal wall and incisional hernia f.e. type of mesh,
fixation, approach, comparison to open (recurrence, pain, complications,
costs, etc.) and so on.
2. Video-demonstration showing expert techniques
(How I do it).
3. Key-note lectures f.e. “ Role of Biologicals”, new
techniques ( Single Incision, Single Port, NOTES) .
4. Update of IEHS
Guidelines on Inguinal Hernia.
5. Free papers and videos.
Special Offer: Precongress Workshop for about 20 surgeons who want to
introduce lap. Hernia repair ( I would organize that): Anatomy, Technique of
TAPP/TEP, Pitfalls, Training with Simulator ( I had developed with K. Storz
company).
In discussion: Founding Assembly of IEHS.
Location: Suzhou ( about 30 min. drive from Shanghai Airport), World
Heritage Gardens – “Venice of the East”.
Time: 13.-16. of October.
Our hosts: Prof. Steven Yao ( Chief of Hernia Center, Shanghai Medical
College, Fudan University, Vice-Director of General Surgery,
Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University) and Prof. Ji ( Professor and
Chairman, Department of General Surgery, Zhongda Hospital,
School of Medicine Southeast University, 87 Ding Jia Qiao Road, Nanjing,
Jiangsu 210009). The third of the local organizing team is Prof. Hao- rong
Wu. He is the Vice President of the Second Affiliated Hospital Suzhou
University ,where Live-Surgery will be take place, and he is the President
of the Society for Laparoscopic Surgery, Jiangsu Province.

Our fourth meeting held in February 2009 in Dehli/ India resulted in a
great success. As you probably know the main topic of that meeting was a
Consensus Conference aiming to develop guidelines on laparoscopic and
endoscopic inguinal hernia repair. During the following 1 ½ Year the
guidelines (attached)) were developed and submitted for publication in Surg
Endosc. With great pleasure we can inform you that the Guidelines are
accepted for publication.
I am telling nothing new when stating that meanwhile surgery of Incisional
and Abdominal Hernia is like working through a jungle. To get more light it
seems necessary to start a new project as outlined below:
